When the situation changes overnight

Floods, drought and a pandemic. Relief that moved fast, reached the people everyone else missed, and was documented afterwards.

Emergency Relief

What this programme does

Relief work is judged on two things, how quickly you move and whether you reach the people nobody else is counting. During the covid pandemic that meant police officers standing on duty in the heat, migrants walking home along the Mumbai Agra highway, newspaper sellers whose work put them in contact with hundreds of households, and prisoners inside Nashik Road jail.

Our doctors worked through the period when there was no clarity on treatment and no sufficient protective equipment, and did not step back from duty. The relief work ran alongside that, not instead of it.

The same approach applies to floods. Medicines, clothing and nutritional food distributed to affected families, with the gram panchayat and local bodies identifying who needs it first.

4,000Police officers and doctors given safety kits
3,500Migrants fed on the Mumbai Agra highway
900Ration kits to labourers, tribal families and women
